Carrie Helser (USA) hat mir letztes Jahr ein ganz besonderes Weihnachtsgeschenk gemacht: Ihr Freund Willyum Rowe hat für das Jahr 2020 ein Kunst-Abonnement als eine Art Spendenaktion für sich selbst konzipiert: Jeder Abonnent erhält monatlich von ihm ein Original-Kunstwerk, das in dem eigens dafür gestalteten „Museums-Umschlag“ aufbewahrt werden kann. Carrie hat ein Abo für mich gekauft.

Last year Carrie Helser (USA) gave me a very special Christmas present: Her friend Willyum Rowe has designed an art subscription for the year 2020 as a kind of fundraiser for herself: Each subscriber will receive an original work of art from him each month, which can be kept in the specially designed „museum envelope“. Carrie bought a subscription for me.

Lynn Skordal und ich haben uns vor vielen Jahren online kennengelernt – seit dem kollaborieren wir kontinuierlich. Diese Freundschaft ist besonders – uns trennen etwa 8.000 km (5.000 Meilen) Luftlinie, aber im Herzen und im Geiste sind wir verbunden.
Diesmal hat Lynn mir neben der fertiggestellten gemeinsamen Collage und einem neuen Starter auch ihr selbstpubliziertes Magazin „What I did during the pandemic by Donald J. Trump“ zugesendet. Sie schreibt dazu: „Das Coronavirus tauchte vor vier Monaten in den Vereinigten Staaten auf, und heute erreichen wir die grausame Statistik von mehr als 100.000 Amerikanern, die an Covid-19 gestorben sind. Das ist mehr als die Zahl der Amerikaner, die im Korea-Krieg, im Vietnam-Krieg, im Irak-Krieg und im Afghanistan-Krieg zusammengenommen gestorben sind. Wir sind der planetarische Brennpunkt, und die Zahl der Todesopfer steigt weiter an.
Zu Ehren dieser Leistung teile ich ein kleines Zine, das ich für Familie und Freunde gemacht habe (ich würde sagen, „genießen“ Sie es, aber das ist wirklich nicht das richtige Wort, oder?“ Das war am 23. Mai 2020. Heute, am 24. Juli 2020, sind 4.038.748 Menschen in den USA infiziert und 144.304 Menschen in den USA an Covid-19 verstorben.

Lynn Skordal and I met online many years ago – since then we have been collaborating continuously. This friendship is special – we are separated by about 8.000 km (5,000 miles) as the crow flies, but we are connected in heart and mind.
This time Lynn has sent me her self-published magazine „What I did during the pandemic by Donald J. Trump“ in addition to the finished collage and a new starter. She writes about it: „The coronavirus emerged four months ago in the United States, and today we attain the gruesome statistic of more than 100,000 Americans dead from Covid-19. That’s more than the number of Americans who died in the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Iraq War and the Afghanistan War, combined. We are the planetary hot spot and the death toll continues to rise. In honor of this achievement, I’m sharing a little zine I made for family and friends (I’d say „enjoy“ it, but that’s really not the right word, is it?).“

Quarantine Mail Art
Special Collections Research Center – Temple University
Das Forschungszentrum für Spezialsammlungen der Temple University Libraries (SCRC) hat einen offenen Aufruf zur Quarantäne-Postkunst veröffentlicht.
Bei all dem weltweiten Elend rund um die Pandemie fällt es schwer aber ist es so wichtig, das Schöne im Auge zu behalten. Deswegen habe ich meine Collage „Das Schöne im Blickpunkt“ auf der Single „Schallplatten Vogelbuch von E. V. Schälow und Dr. V. Wendland -Sang da nicht die Nachtigall!“ vom Verlag J. Neumann-Neudamm – Melsungen kreiert, auf der unterschiedliche Vogelstimmen zu hören sind. Ich hoffe, der Jury gefällt meine Mail Art.
Im späten Herbst 2020 werden die Einsendungen in der Charles Library ausgestellt.
The Temple University Libraries’ Special Collections Research Center (SCRC) has issued an open call for quarantine mail art.
With all the global misery surrounding the pandemic, it is hard but important to keep an eye on the beautiful. That is why I created my collage „Focus on the Beautiful“ on the single „Schallplatten Vogelbuch von E. V. Schälow und Dr. V. Wendland – Wasn’t the nightingale that sang!“ by the publishing house J. Neumann-Neudamm – Melsungen, on which different bird voices can be heard. I hope the jury likes my Mail Art.
In late autumn 2020 the entries will be exhibited at the Charles Library.
Re-Volver Arte 2020 (BRA)
Ich habe an dem Mail Art Call Re-Volver Arte teilgenommen – und das ist mein Beitrag.
Im Portugiesischen bezieht sich das Verb „Revolver“, im Gegensatz zum Substantiv „revólver“, das eine bestimmte Art von Handfeuerwaffe bezeichnet, auf den Akt des Umdrehens, des Verschiebens, des Positionswechsels. Das bedeutet: Die auf dem Postweg erhaltenen Werke werden mit ihren Originalumschlägen in der Fine Arts Gallery der Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Brasilien, ausgestellt, und nach Ende der Ausstellung werden die Werke an zufällige Teilnehmer der Ausstellung zurückgeschickt.
Die Vernissage wurde ursprünglich für den 8. Juni 2020 geplant – aus den allseits bekannten Gründen wird dieser verschoben und die Einsendefrist verlängert.

I have participated in the Mail Art Call Re-Volver Arte – and this is my contribution
In Portuguese, the verb „revolver“, as opposed to the noun „revólver“, which denotes a certain type of handgun, refers to the act of turning, moving, changing position.
This means that the works received by post are exhibited with their original envelopes at the Fine Arts Gallery of the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Brazil, and at the end of the exhibition the works are returned to random participants of the exhibition.
The vernissage was originally planned for June 8, 2020 – for reasons well known to everyone, this will be postponed and the deadline for submissions extended.
