Nachdem ich virtuell durch das „Blaue Haus“, das Frida Kahlo Museum in Mexiko-Stadt, lustwandelt bin, habe ich große Lust bekommen, mir den Film über sie und ihr Leben erneut anzuschauen. FRIDA ist ein Biopic aus dem Jahr 2002 von Julie Taymor mit Salma Hayek als Frida Kahlo (und Co-Produzentin) und Alfred Molina als Diego Rivera – und vielen anderen beeindruckenden SchauspielerInnen.
Absolut sehenswert.
Bei der Oscar-Verleihung 2003 wurde der Film in folgenden Kategorien ausgezeichnet: Beste Filmmusik (Elliot Goldenthal) und Beste Maske (John E. Jackson)

Dies ist die für mich passendste Kurzbeschreibung des Films:
„Die junge Frida Kahlo (temperamentvoll gespielt von Salma Hayek) gerät in ein Busunglück und überlebt schwer verletzt. Ans Bett gefesselt beginnt sie, Bilder zu malen. Sowohl ihre Verletzung, als auch die Leidenschaft zur Malerei sollten sie bis zum Ende ihres Lebens begleiten. Kurze Zeit später lernt sie Diego Rivera (Alfred Molina) kennen. Rivera ist selbst ein bekannter Maler und nicht nur von Kahlos Kunstwerken begeistert. Die beiden beginnen eine leidenschaftliche Liebesbeziehung und heiraten schließlich. Doch obwohl sie sich bedingungslos lieben, geraten Kahlo und Rivera immer wieder aneinander, betrügen und verletzen sich gegenseitig – zwei Individualisten, die nicht mit- aber auch nicht ohneeinander sein können.
Im Film sehen wir, wie Kahlos bekannteste Werke entstehen und zum Leben erwachen. An vielen Stellen wird die Handlung von surrealen Collagen unterbrochen, die die bunte Gefühls- und Gedankenwelt der Künstlerin widerspiegeln. So  verschmelzen in ihren Bildern Kunst und Lebenserfahrung auf einzigartige Weise. „Frida“ ist ein bildgewaltiges und berührendes Biopic, das nicht umsonst mit zwei Oscars ausgezeichnet wurde.“ (Quelle)

After I took a virtual stroll through the „Blue House“, the Frida Kahlo Museum in Mexico City, I got the urge to watch the film about her and her life again.
A 2002 biopic by Julie Taymor with Salma Hayek as Frida Kahlo (and co-producer) and Alfred Molina as Diego Rivera – and many other impressive actors.
Absolutely worth seeing.

This is for me the most appropriate short description of the film:
„The young Frida Kahlo (spiritedly played by Salma Hayek) gets into a bus crash and survives badly injured. Tied to bed, she begins to paint pictures. Both her injury and her passion for painting should accompany her until the end of her life. A short time later she meets Diego Rivera (Alfred Molina). Rivera is a well-known painter himself and not only enthusiastic about Kahlo’s works of art. The two begin a passionate love affair and eventually marry. But although they love each other unconditionally, Kahlo and Rivera clash again and again, cheat on and hurt each other – two individualists who can’t be with each other but also can’t be without each other.
In the film we see how Kahlo’s most famous works come into being and come to life. At many points the plot is interrupted by surreal collages that reflect the artist’s colourful world of feelings and thoughts. Thus, art and life experience merge in her paintings in a unique way. „Frida“ is a visually stunning and touching biopic, which has not won two Oscars for nothing.“ (Source)

Das Museum, auch bekannt als „Das blaue Haus“ wegen seiner blauen Wände, ist das Geburts-, Wohn- und Sterbehaus von Frida Kahlo (1907 – 1954) und befindet sich in Mexiko-Stadt.
„1957 spendete Diego Rivera das Haus und seinen Inhalt, um es zu Fridas Ehren in ein Museum zu verwandeln. Das Museum enthält eine Sammlung von Kunstwerken von Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera und anderen Künstlern sowie mexikanische Volkskunst des Paares , vorspanische Artefakte, Fotografien, Erinnerungsstücke, persönliche Gegenstände und vieles mehr. Die Sammlung wird in den Räumen des Hauses ausgestellt, die noch immer so sind wie in den 1950er Jahren.“ (Quelle)

The museum, also known as „The Blue House“ because of its blue walls, is the birth, living and death house of Frida Kahlo (1907 – 1954) and is located in Mexico City.
„In 1957, Diego Rivera donated the house and its contents to transform it into a museum in Frida’s honor. The museum contains a collection of works of art by Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and other artists, as well as Mexican folk art by the couple, pre-Hispanic artifacts, photographs, memorabilia, personal items and much more. The collection is displayed in the rooms of the house, which are still the same as they were in the 1950s.“ (source)
