Ferdinand Monoyer war ein französischer Augenarzt (1836 – 1912), der 1872 die Dioptrie für die Maßeinheit der optischen Linsen einführte. Er entwickelte einen Sehtest (die Monoyer-Skala) zur Ermittlung der Sehstärke, der sich bald etablierte und noch heute verwendet wird. In diesem Sehtest hat Herr Monoyer witziger weise seinen Namen verewigt (siehe unten). (Quelle)
Der Verein „Villa Monoyer“ (auch auf FB vertreten), widmet sich als kultureller Ort der Erinnerung an Ferdinand Monoyer und der Geschichte der Lyoner Medizin.

Ferdinand Monoyer was a French ophthalmologist  (1836 – 1912) who developed the dioptre, the unit of measurement for vision/ eye sight. He created the Monoyer chart, which is still in use, where every row represents a different dioptre. (Source) Funny little detail: he has immortalised his name in this scala (see below).
The aim of the society  „Villa Monoyer“ (also on FB) is to keep the memory of Ferdinand Monoyer and the Lyoner medicine.

I received some very nice mail form Mano, Petra Lorenz, Volker Lenkeit and Frank Voigt and a very long time ago from some other mail art friends. Now I am very glad that I could create something in response for them: All of them will receive the  „Aquarius“, a series of 11 original collages with vintage buttons and sewed with machine, as well as „Greetings from …“, another series of 11 original collages. I hope they like it.

Ich habe vor einer Weile Post von Mano, Petra Lorenz, Volker Lenkeit und Frank Voigt und vor sehr viel längerer Zeit von anderen Mail Art Freunden erhalten. Ich bin sehr froh, dass ich nun etwas für sie habe machen können: Alle erhalten einen „Aquarius“, eine Serie aus 11 Original-Collagen mit einem alten Button, mit der Nähmaschine benäht, sowie „Grüße von …“, eine weiter Collage-Serie von 11 Original-Collagen.  Ich hoffe, dass sie es mögen.

A selection is already present as donation in the collection of the „Neue Sächsische Galerie“ in Chemnitz. and now from 28 artists 50 art x mail art works as a donation to the Museum für Kommunikation Frankfurt/Main.
